The journey from 2 to 3 years is a time of rapid expansion for a child. This is an age of exploration and discovery, where they truly start to express their unique personality and independence. Language skills flourish during this period, with sentences becoming longer and more complex. Fine and gross motor skills develop further, enabling them to engage in more intricate play and self-care tasks. Socially and emotionally, 2 to 3-year-olds start to understand others' feelings and begin to engage in cooperative play. Cognitive development soars as they start to understand basic concepts of numbers, colors, and shapes. At Little Lion Early Learning, we guide and nurture these developments, fostering an environment that inspires curiosity, creativity, and confidence.
This stage is known as “onlooker play,” and it’s a key phase in a child’s social development. In this stage, children show an interest in other children’s play but aren’t yet ready to join in. Instead, they watch and listen closely, usually from a short distance. While it might look like they’re just passively observing, they’re actually learning a lot during this stage. They’re studying how other children interact, what games they play, and how they share and cooperate. This observation is an essential part of learning and understanding social norms, even if they’re not quite ready to participate yet.
In this stage, children start to play side by side with others, often imitating their play activities, but they don’t really play together. This kind of play usually happens within close proximity, where they share the same space and sometimes even the same toys. However, they mainly focus on their own play and maintain a certain level of independence.
Communication is minimal in this stage, and children are more focused on observing and copying the behaviors of others. While they may not interact much, this stage is crucial as it prepares them for the next stage of social play known as “associative play,” where more direct interaction begins to occur.
Our weekly menu has a variety of nutritionally balanced meals to support your child’s interest in food. We believe by providing positive social engagements during meal times, children will feel safe to explore new tastes and textures.
Upon enrolment, your child will receive a set of Little Lion cot sheets. If you would like to provide additional bedding, it must be sleep safe.
This classroom has a sleep/rest period from 12:00pm – 2:30pm. However children that show ‘sleep cues’ or request a bed throughout the day, will be supported by an educator to have a rest.
Our Services all provide nappy changing facilities and supplies. When your child begins to show signs of toilet readiness, our educators will offer opportunities for toilet training.
