0-2 Years

In the first two years of life, a child experiences an incredible journey of growth and development. This is the time when they first begin to explore the world around them. From their initial coos and babbles evolving into words and sentences, to their first tentative steps transforming into confident strides, the development in the 0-2 year age range is truly remarkable. This period sees them grow not just physically, but also emotionally, socially, and cognitively. They start to recognize familiar faces, express emotions, and develop an understanding of cause and effect. At Little Lion Early Learning, we're passionate about supporting and celebrating each milestone in this extraordinary journey

Stages of Play

Unoccupied Play (0-3 months)

At this stage, children are just beginning to explore and make sense of the world around them. This kind of play, known as unoccupied play, is characterized by seemingly random movements. They may move their arms and legs aimlessly, touch, grab, or shake objects, or reach out towards moving objects like a hanging mobile. Even though it may not seem like traditional play, this kind of activity is essential for the child’s developing brain as they start understanding how to interact with their surroundings.

Solitary Play (0-2 years)

This stage of play involves the child focusing on a specific activity and shows little or no interest in what others may or may not be doing. While solitary play is a progression through Parten’s stages of play, it remains a normal part of older children’s and even adults play cycles. Solitary play may be observable when a child demonstrates an ability to focus on one toy for more than a minute.

Your child’s educators will continue your home sleep routine within the centre and watch for sleep cues throughout the day. If you would like to provide additional bedding, it must be sleep safe
